Australia
Australia themed projects occur in a range of media, designed and created by Random Gran.
Australiana Collection Posters
The Australiana Collection of posters celebrates Australia, its native animals, and its icons with the national colours of green and gold, and the red and black in the Aboriginal flag.
The article, Creating the Australiana Collection, tells the story of this series of posters.
Printable files of these posters are available at the Random Gran shop in Etsy.
Crochet Art
Crochet Art projects are original Random Gran designs. They range from samplers of crochet stitches and techniques to designs that use unusual techniques or contribute to multimodal projects.
Hippy Vest with Dolly Bag
The bright and cheerful clothing of the Hippy era lends itself to crochet vests. This one is a sampler of various crochet stitches in red, orange, purple, and variegated cotton.
Cross Stitch Art
Cross Stitch Art projects are original Random Gran designs created with a planned theme. The fabric and thread are the medium rather than the objective of the design.
Open Arms – A Compilation of Symbols
Each element of this Open Arms cross stitch picture has a symbolic meaning. Together all the symbols build the visual interpretation of a multi-layered theme.
Golden Ratio
The Golden Ratio, a natural phenomenon, adds aesthetic appeal to designs and art. It becomes a project when creations are based on the ratio rather than merely incorporating elements of it.
Thee I Trust
Thee I Trust draws together the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci Sequence. It is a digital line drawing that grew from a failed experiment into another direction altogether.
Short Stories
The collection of short stories not related to specific projects.
Hi! I’m Here
Three women isolated by their circumstances meet by chance and help each other.
The original line drawing of a trapped woman.
In Memory of Mary Miller
In November 1902, an unexplained explosion killed a Toowoomba man in his home. His name was Christy Miller. Now, 120 years later, the case remains unsolved.
Typography
Typography uses words and letters to create visual imagery. These projects are created with the focus on type rather than other content.
Cycle of Isolation
Rewards for the efforts to break the cycle of isolation are rare. Disregard for those efforts feels like rejection. This typographical piece came about as a way to channel the anger that rejection incites.
Self-portrait
One of my strengths that sustains me when times get rough is my mind. This needs to be reflected in my self-portrait, so typography for the hair is a great way to portray how much I rely on my mind.
The words spell out my interests in handicrafts, writing, reading, digital design, study, etc.
While the face outline is from a photograph of me, the face remains blank, as I am still tempted to hide from the hurtfulness of discrimination.
Unconscious Creativity
Unconscious Creativity is a project that aims to recognise the influence of the unconscious on creative works.
This project started as my major research unit of the Master of Arts (Writing) course. Using Practice Led Research, a framework of multi-modal metaphors challenged risk aversion in unconscious creativity.
Articles about the components of this project will be provided at a later date.
